A Shakespearean Adaptation
A dark comedy for anyone who loves or hates Shakespeare.
The stories have been told the same way for over four hundred years.
The lovers love.
The mad go mad.
The powerful take what they want.
And the doomed meet their fate.
Night after night.
Death after death.
Curtain. Applause. Do it all again.
But in this production, the witches are stirring.
Something has shifted.
Characters are appearing where they shouldn’t. Lines are being questioned. Old stories are beginning to fracture. A Bear is lurking in the wings. And Shakespeare is discovering that keeping control of his own creations might be harder than he thought.
Because after four centuries, perhaps it’s worth asking a few questions.
Who gets to be the hero?
Who gets to speak?
As tragedy begins to collide with the present, O Woe Is Me playfully digs beneath the romance, madness, violence and death of Shakespeare’s most famous works, exploring the roles women have been given, the stories we inherit, and what happens when someone finally questions the person holding the quill.
Part Shakespearean tragedy, part feminist reckoning, part theatrical fever dream and part backstage disaster, O Woe Is Me tumbles through a world of witches, ghosts, blood, love, death, puppets, pop culture and very questionable artistic decisions.
The stories may be familiar.
But perhaps the people inside them deserve another look.
After all, all the world’s a stage…

CURLEWS CALL
Curlew's Call is an exciting new original family theatre production being created on the Gold Coast by Good Karma Collective in collaboration with Ya Mum Productions.
Following a family of Bush Stone-curlews on their journey to find a safe place to call home, this heartwarming and humorous production explores themes of belonging, resilience, protecting our native wildlife, and the power of community. Through laughter, music and imagination, Curlew's Call celebrates the unique environment we share while encouraging audiences of all ages to reflect on how we care for both the natural world and one another.
More than just a performance, Curlew's Call is a community-led creative journey. In the months leading up to the February season, local residents will have the opportunity to take part in a series of free community creative workshops led by an inspiring team of professional artists, including Moyra Major, Isabelle Eurell, and Zuzy Musica. Through storytelling, visual arts, music and theatre-making, participants will help shape elements of the production, with ideas and artworks becoming part of the final performance.
Accessibility has been woven into the project from the very beginning, ensuring people of all ages, backgrounds and lived experiences can participate both on stage and behind the scenes. By bringing together professional artists and the wider community, Curlew's Call celebrates the stories, creativity and connections that make the Gold Coast such a special place to call home.
Curlew's Call is proudly supported through the City of Gold Coast's Arts Development Fund. The Arts Development Fund is a City of Gold Coast initiative that supports our creative community by fostering professional pathways and skills development, contributing to our city's vibrant lifestyle.
